Dragging myself round the corner – 20 Sep 2020

It’s been a strange week, in which I’ve been torn between the desire to do fun, PhD-related things and the obligation to do tedious finish-work on the MA dissertation. As the week wore on, the amount of MA work that got done slowed to a grinding snail’s pace. I have about five references left to put in my document and at this rate, I’ll be doing about one per day. It’s a ridiculous example of expanding the amount of work to fit the time available.

The real turning point came on Wednesday, when I met with my new PhD supervisor. That was interesting for lots of reasons, and not least because I had to remember what I thought I was doing with my PhD and present it to him on the fly, having not paid much attention to it for several months. By the time I’d done that, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm for the fascinating research stage, to the point where I could hardly drag myself away from it. Obviously, this falls into the category of things students should not do, but I’m doing it anyway.

Also, I’m still not enrolled.
